"OK! So THIS Year I Am Defo Gonna..."

...OK! but stop before you say anything because you probably won't act upon any of this at all, right? There must be some sort of statistic somewhere proving that gyms are far more busy in January than they are in December. Why? New.Years.Resolutions. Tha's why. I applaud anyone who sticks out their resolution the entire year through, it's usually weight related, or needing to apply more 'me' time, working harder, less sleep ins, more early nights, saving money (ouch, the last is like cutting a student with a very sharp knife). I'm all for goals, striving to achieve, here here. However, when it comes to new years resolutions they've just become this worn out fashion, the whole idea of the 'new years resolution' makes you feel good about having the resolution in the first place before you've even acted upon it. Why? Because you've thought up of a traditional yearly goal therefore it justifies circumstances? AKA 'I can eat more chocolate than usual for the last week of this year because I WILL be giving it up within the new year.' And if the goal isn't attained? 'Oh well, at least the thought was there. At least I had goals.' Indeed at least you had some sort of desire for improvement rather than staying cynical, but from going through the motions of - 1. being under pressure to think up new years resolutions because the current year is nigh 2. narrowing down which nyr's (newyearsresolutions) would be more plausible 3. spending a good week or so being fully aware of what these nyr's of yours actually are therefore building up a vast amount of pressure from contemplating these fast approaching resolutions in your final week of freedom - you are going to be dreading/hating them by the time it actually comes to act upon them, so much so you'll no doubt, within a few days of try outs, admit defeat and cry 'fuck it. gimmie my walkers, not my nikes.' ...And fair play to you, no one blames you, because we'll all be doing/saying the same.
IF you want to change something about yourself, and I'm talking mass determination, do it now, don't wait for the nyr trend and excuse, 'cos the curse of the no follow through will probs catch you up.
